Chic and hipster, High Cotton Brewing is in the heart of downtown Memphis, TN just two blocks from Beale Street. After a visit to the famed Sun Studio Records, it was a short walk to enjoy an ice-cold beverage at High Cotton.
They have both indoor and outdoor seating, but I didn’t feel like the vibe was really kid or dog-friendly. The taproom certainly had a more refined feel than most breweries that we visit. The attached restaurant I thought was a gallery of sorts.
What did we drink?
Hop Czar IPA
High Cotton wasn’t our style. They had no bar seating, the employees just sat there on their phones. It had that hipster vibe we don’t dig. If you’ve followed us for very long, you’d know that’s the furthest from our preferred style.
The beer was nothing to write home about and overall it just wasn’t for us. Part of me didn’t even want to write this because I hate when I’m not over the moon in love with a brewery. I don’t want to seem like a jerk, but it’s honest. I like being honest.
Maybe we just picked a bad day, maybe they don’t always seem like they’d rather there not be any customers to wait on. They seemed very inconvenienced by our presence.
Oh, and for a final blow. Their seats suck. So uncomfortable. What were they thinking? It’s very “drink your beer and get out you schleps!”
